Hey jsut came back from badminton camp which was held in KL and i persoanlly feel i have acquired a mastery of badminton techniques within those 4 days hahah. that explains while i lost almopst all my matches there hahah ok anyway had to share a room with my coach, hahah he snores damn loudly ahah

reasons for merger

economical reasons(sinagpore)
-common market
-goods sold freely without taxes
-pioneer certificates
-more jobs as 50% of work to develop sabah and sarawak will come from singapore
-malaysia hinterland of raw materials
-malaysia has a bigger market to sell singapore goods

-economical reasons(malaysia)
-singapore contribut 40% of yearly revenue
-borneo loan

politcal reasons(singapore)
-singapore wnated to gain independence from british
-british did not want to grant because of fear sg might fall to communist
-british feared that their trade would be affected

Political reasons (malaysia)
-fear of singapore falling to communist
-comunnist were mostly chinese who were biggest racial group
-middle school chinese school students were also inclined towards communism
-pro communist members of pap broke of the form barisian sosialis in august 1961
-pap lost two by elections whcih alarmed tunku as it showed that pap was growing internally weaker and he feared that if the pap were overthrown, the communist would be the next government.
-however this was not a reason for merger until he was certain the number of malays outnumbered the number of malays by including sabah and sarawak in the formation of malaysia.

-malaysia saw singapore as a rival and tried to subdue it by attracting companies to set up in malaysia by providing attractive financial packages.

malaysia also wanted singapore to close the bank of china as it claimed that it was providing funds for the communist fighting in the jungles.however singapore refused as it would affect trade with china and china goods were afforable.

political reasons
pap was non communal
umno was communal therefore provided special rights for malays for example setting aside land for them
in 1961 singapore alliance was formed. they wanted pap to let them win a few seats
however wasnted to look after everyone and refused and as a result SA did not win any seats even in predominently malay areas.in the 1963 general elections
this showed that the people in the area were not for umnos communal politics
in 1964 federal elections pap sent 17th candidtaes and devan nair won one seat in the bangsar constuency.
this angered tunku and got umno worried and hence they started the anti pap campaign
they preempted a pap meeting with malay organisations and they claimed that the pap were treating malays unfairly
for example resettlement projects trageting them and stressed that they were the poorest among all racial groups
when pap met with them they promised to give the malays better housing and all but it was too late
a clash between a chinese policeman and a group of malays sparked off the riots which resulted in loss of lives and damage of propery
sa decided to reform itself and make itself stronger to ensure that they would win seats in the 1968 general elections
in response pap formed the malaysian solitary convention and they campaigned for a malaysian malaysia where everyone would be treated equally
this went against what umno stood for

external pressures
the indonesian confrontation was part of the anti pap campaign
the indonesians viewed that british ships in singapores ports was a way for them to retain power in the region
they sent saboteurs to sabah sarawak singapore and johor and their voilence caused damage
this continued until 1966 until there was a change in president
philipines also broke up diplomatic ties with malaysia until 1966 as they claimed sabah belonged to them

OOKKK i just realised that this fucking week has been just like one bad thing after another, first i got sick, then i got a nose infection, then as it was getting better i got hit by the ball and it got worst again, then i got an eye infection, then was a surprise chem test and bio ca which i screwed up bad big time, then i got my test and it confirmed the fact i failed big time then the soccer ball got confiscated and i have to pay, then i go back to training and i suck balls and ya
